AFMC - John Ruedy Award for Innovation in Medical Education

Overview
 
To honour Dr. John Ruedy on his retirement as Dean of Medicine at Dalhousie University in 1999, the Faculty of Medicine established a national award in his name. The AFMC - John Ruedy Award for Innovation in Medical Education will be awarded to an individual or group who has developed innovative print materials, electronic learning aids or other teaching aids. These Canadian innovations can take the form of textbooks, software, CD-ROMS, web design, app design, or other technology that has aided medical education initiatives in undergraduate, postgraduate or continuing medical education.
 
Selection Criteria
 
Nominations must include:
 
  • Evidence of the nominee’s achievements in innovation in medical education materials in their faculty of medicine or beyond their faculty of medicine on a provincial and national level;
  • Evidence of scholarship in the area of medical education initiatives in undergraduate, postgraduate or continuing medical education;
  • Leadership in leading change with demonstrated impact in medical education innovation using technology;
  • Participation in committees and or other activities in medical education innovation using technology.

The award will be presented at the annual AFMC Presidential Address and Award Ceremony at the CCME. The award recipient will receive a complimentary registration for the conference. The terms of this award also cover the recipient’s expenses to attend the ceremony. Please check the General Information section for more details.
 
Nominating Procedure
 
The nomination must be made by a letter of nomination by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the nominee’s school. Each Faculty may nominate one nominee. Nominations must be accompanied by an abbreviated CV, two supporting letters from peers and other relevant documentation as required to meet the criteria above.
