AFMC is involved in many projects and initiatives to examine and improve Canada's system of medical education. These initiatives yield resources and information for faculty, students and others involved in medical education under the guidance of our social accountability mandate.
A main piece of work is the implementation of the recommendations from each of The Future of Medical Education in Canada (FMEC) undergraduate and postgraduate reports. Medical education curriculum must constantly adapt to societal changes. Some areas of transformation have been specifically identified, including the implementation of Competency Based Medical Education, fostering of Collaborative and Leadership skills in future physicians, and Support to clinical teachers.
CCME is the premier medical education conference in Canada. It hosts the largest annual gathering of medical educators in the country. Each year a different Canadian faculty hosts the conference in partnership with five of Canada's leading health organizations - The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), the Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME), The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), the Medical Council of Canada (MCC), and The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). The AFMC is conference secretariat and provides administrative support for the conference.
